Digitale Brücke / Digital Bridges e.V. |
The information- and communication technologies (ICT) are currently the most important key technologies all over the world. The application of these technologies also offers significant potentials for poverty reduction and a social, democratic and sustainable development.
New technologies are certainly not a universal remedy for poverty reduction - but a reasonable application of ICT in terms of development policies and economics can substantially contribute to the development of a country.
The non-profit association Digitale Brücke / Digital Bridges e.V. is actively working on integrating the developing countries in the global information society and promotes the use of information- and communication technologies as instrument to improve development cooperation.

Volunteer vacancy for Tadlo.net (ASA-Programm) |
|
Wednesday, 23 November 2011 |
The Tadlo.net project is once more listed in the program catalogue of the ASA-Programm for 2012. We are very happy about the continuous support from the ASA-Programm, because this is already the eighth time that Tadlo.net is promoted. The ASA-Programm prepares 2 volunteers for their stay in the project and furthermore covers all expenses. This is a very good opportunity to get to know the work and to actively participate in a development project. The stay in Laos will take place between September and December 2012.
Interested people can directly apply at the ASA Programm until January 10, 2012. More information as well as the criteria for application can be found on the German website of the ASA-Programm.

Digitale Brücke / Digital Bridges e.V. now supports the Silicon Village Computer Centre (SVCC) in Chitwan, Nepal. The SVCC offers computer courses and IT-services in the rural area near the Chitwan National Park. The SVCC has been established for many years, a very successful tutoring system has been implemented and more than 300 youths have already been trained.
A memorandum of understanding between Digitale Brücke / Digital Bridges e.V. and the SVCC has been signed on September 8th. The intention of the cooperation is to revitalise the activitities at the SVCC and to implement new services in the future. At first, the training centre will be equipped with new computers and the SVCC will then be supported by volunteers from Germany.
Digitale Brücke / Digital Bridges has already financially supported the project in 2003 when the computer centre was run under the name Ganesha's Project.
In September 2011 a small delegation of Digitale Brücke / Digital Bridges e.V. (Ana, Minh and Simon) is meeting new contacts and initiating new activities in Nepal. We are very happy that our organization can extend its activites to bridge the Digital Divide with this project and we would like to thank all involved people for their support.
More detailed information about the project can be found in the project description.

German Embassy in Laos supports the Tadlo.net project |
|
Thursday, 02 June 2011 |
The German Embassy in Laos has financially supported the Tadlo.net project in the context of a micro project. Thanks to the support 10 new computer workspaces including monitor und UPS as well as a laser printer could be acquired for the Tadlo Computer Education Center (TCEC). The new hardware replaces broken computers and guarantees high quality education at the TCEC. The acquisition costs of over 43.000.000 KIP could not have been covered with project funds.
We would like to express our gratefulness for the generous support of the German Embassy in Vientiane. Many thanks also to Andreas Rohde, a Laos based advisor of the TCEC, for his great support in the application process.
